The Arrived Text: Telling the Homeowner the Junk Truck Is Out Front
A box truck in the driveway is hard to miss when you are home. When you are at work, upstairs with headphones on, or at the back of the house, it is easy to miss entirely. The arrived text closes that gap. It tells the customer the crew is here, right now, so they can come to the door, open the garage or just know the work has started.
The Second Automatic Text
The heads-up before the crew gets there is covered in Automatic On-the-Way Texts From the Junk Crew's Phone. The arrived text is its partner: it goes out when the crew gets to the house.
Like the on-the-way text, it is sent automatically. The crew does not stop to type anything. Customers who turned on the crew-arrived alert in their preferences get it; customers who did not, do not.
Why Arrived Matters for Junk Pickups
Junk removal has a lot of pickups where the customer is not standing in the driveway:
- No-contact pickups. The mattress is on the porch, the customer is at work, and the crew is in and out in ten minutes.
- Garage-code jobs. The customer left the code and wants to know when someone is opening their garage.
- Estate cleanouts. A family member who lives out of town wants to know the crew showed up at their parent's house.
- Rentals and trash-outs. A property manager wants to know the crew is at the unit.
In each case, the arrived text is reassurance. Someone they trust is at the property, and nobody had to call to confirm it.
Arrived, Then the Walk-Through
When the customer is home, the arrived text is the cue to come out. That opens the door, literally, to the most useful two minutes of the job: the walk-through. The crew points at the pile, confirms what goes and what stays, and notes any changes on the job.
A crew that gets a walk-through on every job where the customer is home has fewer questions later. If the customer adds something, the crew notes it so the office can add it to the invoice. That process is covered in When the Customer Adds More Junk on Site: From the Crew's Note to the Invoice.
When Nobody Answers
Sometimes the arrived text goes out and nothing happens. The customer said they would be home to open the basement, but nobody answers the door. The crew has a decision to make:
- If the items are reachable without the customer, like on the porch or in an open garage, and the notes say that is fine, do the job.
- If the crew needs to get inside, give it a few minutes and let the office know. A reply to the arrived text often comes in while the crew is waiting, and it goes to the office through two-way texting.
- If there is still no answer, tap Skip with a note, take a photo, and move on. The office follows up.
How long to wait is your policy to set. Writing it down means every crew handles it the same way, and it gives the office a clear answer when a customer asks why the truck left without them.
Replies Go to the Office
When a customer replies to the arrived text, “be right down” or “side door is open, go ahead,” the reply goes to the office through two-way texting, not to a crew member's personal phone. The office passes on what matters. That keeps customers talking to your business and keeps crew phone numbers private. It also means there is one record of the conversation, in the office, instead of pieces of it scattered across three crew members' phones.
Arrived Texts and the Customer App
The arrived alert is one of three a customer can choose, along with night before and when they're next. Customers set those preferences themselves. Alongside the alerts, the customer app shows today's route on a live map with their place in line, plus invoices, online payment and their card on file.
For a homeowner, the arrived text and the invoice that follows are the start and end of the pickup. Both happen without the crew typing a word.
Small Text, Fewer Surprises
An unexpected stranger in the driveway is unsettling. An expected crew from a company that texted you first is a professional service. To see how the arrived text fits with the rest of the crew's tools, visit the JunkBossPro junk removal app page.
