The Customer App From the Homeowner's Side: Live Map, Alerts, Invoices and Payment
Everything in this series so far has been about the crew's phone. There is a second phone in every junk job: the customer's. What the homeowner sees on their side, before, during and after the pickup, shapes whether they feel like they hired a professional company or a guy with a truck. The customer app is what they see.
The Other End of the Crew App
Splitting work across trucks is covered in Two Trucks, Two Routes: Single Items on One, Cleanouts on the Other. Whichever truck shows up, the customer's experience should be the same, and the customer app is a big part of that.
The customer app is the homeowner's window into your business. It shows their service day, lets them choose how they hear from you, and handles invoices and payment. Much of what the crew does in the crew app shows up here on the customer's side.
Today's Route on a Live Map
On the day of the pickup, the customer can open the app and see today's route on a live map, with their place in line: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” That one line answers the question every junk customer has on pickup day: how long until they get here?
For the customer, it means they can run to the store, finish a meeting or move the car without guessing. For the office, it means fewer “where's the truck?” calls.
Alerts They Choose
Customers set their own alert preferences:
- Night before: a reminder that the pickup is tomorrow, so the pile is ready and the garage is clear.
- When they're next: a heads-up that the crew is heading their way.
- When the crew arrives: a text that the truck is out front.
On the crew's side, those texts go out automatically as the crew works the route, with nobody typing. How they work from the truck is covered in Automatic On-the-Way Texts From the Junk Crew's Phone. When customers reply, the replies go to the office through two-way texting.
Requesting Service and Signing Up
Junk removal customers often come back. The garage this spring, the basement next fall, a mattress when the kids move out. In the customer app, they can request service themselves and sign up for services at your prices. A request lands on your Waiting List like any other, so the office can book it near a route that is already going that way.
For property managers and realtors, that makes it easy to send the next unit or listing without a phone call.
Invoices, Payment and Card on File
After the crew taps Complete, the invoice is created. If the customer has a card on file, it can be charged on completion or on a schedule. If not, the customer sees the invoice in the app and pays online.
Customers can also update their card in the app. When a card expires, the customer can fix it themselves instead of the office calling to read numbers over the phone. Monthly accounts, like a property manager with several addresses, see their monthly statement with each line labeled by address.
Rating and Referring
Junk removal grows by word of mouth. Neighbors watch a truck haul away a pile and wonder who did it. The customer app lets customers rate the service and refer friends, right after the job, while the clean garage is still fresh in their mind. A happy customer with a referral link in hand is worth more than one who means to mention you someday.
What the Customer Never Sees
Some of the best parts of the customer experience are the parts customers never notice. The crew showed up at the right house because of one-tap navigation. They knew which couch to take because the description was on the card. They knew the garage code because it was in the access notes. The customer just sees a crew that knew what they were doing.
Both Phones, One Experience
The crew app and the customer app are two halves of the same job. One tells the crew what to do. The other tells the customer what is happening. To see how both sides fit together, visit the JunkBossPro junk removal app page.
