The First Week on Junk Removal Software, Day by Day

Setup gets the software ready. The first week gets the business used to it. Habits form fast, good or bad, so it's worth having a plan for each day. Here's one that works for a junk company with one to three trucks.

Starting From Setup

The setup steps are in Setting Up Junk Removal Software: Trucks, Crew PINs, Services and Clients. By the start of this week, you should have trucks, crew with PINs, your service list, your clients, and at least the first day or two of jobs entered.

Day 1: The First Route

Keep the first day simple. Run the day's booked jobs in the crew app. Some crews want a printed route sheet on the dash the first morning, and that's fine; the dispatch board prints one that matches the app.

Focus on three things today:

At the end of the day, look at the board. Every job should be marked done or skipped with a note.

Day 2: The First Dump Ticket

Today, make dump tickets part of the routine. When the crew comes back with a ticket, enter the tons on the job, along with the included tons and your per-ton rate. Watch the overage line appear on the invoice. Have the crew photograph the ticket so it's saved with the job.

Also today: answer every customer text from the office, not a personal phone. If customers have your old cell number, a short note on your next invoice or estimate can point them to the business line.

Day 3: The Waiting List Habit

By now, new calls should be going straight into the software. Today, start the habit that pays off the most: checking the Waiting List map before you plan tomorrow. Look at tomorrow's stops for each truck, look for nearby requests, and text those customers to see if they want to go tomorrow. Fill the gaps.

The full routine is in The Waiting List Map: Filling the Truck With Requests Near Tomorrow's Route.

Day 4: The First Online Estimate

Send at least one estimate built from the service list and let the customer approve it online. When they do, watch it become the scheduled job, with the same lines and price. If you have an estimate template for your most common job, use it. If you don't, make one today.

If an on-site estimate visit is needed this week, book it as a job on the schedule and put it near other stops on the map.

Day 5: Billing Check

Look at every invoice from the week:

Fix anything that looks off now, while there are only a few days of invoices to check.

Day 6 and 7: Tidy Up

Use the slower end of the week to clean up:

  1. Add access notes to addresses where the crew had trouble getting in.
  2. Retire service lines nobody used and add any you were missing.
  3. Ask the crew what slowed them down in the app. Most answers are about notes that weren't on the card.
  4. Plan next week on the dispatch board, starting from the Waiting List map.

What Good Looks Like by Friday

By the end of the first week, you're looking for a few signs: the notepad by the phone has nothing new on it, every job this week has photos and a closed invoice, dump fees got billed, and the crew isn't calling the office to ask where to go next. If those are true, the software is doing its job. If one isn't, it's usually a habit, not the software, and the fix is a quick conversation with whoever skipped the step.

Week Two and Beyond

After the first week, the routine settles in. Most owners find the time they used to spend on Sunday-night paperwork shifts to quoting and calling commercial accounts. To keep learning the system, go back to the JunkBossPro junk removal software page and pick the guide for whatever slowed you down this week.
