Building a Junk Removal Service List: Single Items, Truck Loads and Cleanouts

The service list is the menu of everything you sell. Every estimate, every job and every invoice in JunkBossPro is built from it. Get it right once and quoting gets faster, pricing gets consistent, and the office can quote a job the same way the owner would.

The List Behind Every Quote

Estimates and on-site visits are covered in On-Site Estimate Visits for Cleanouts, Scheduled Like Any Other Job and the guide before it. Both pull their lines from the service list, so this is where the prices really live.

All the prices below are examples of what a junk company might charge its own customers. Your list should use your prices.

Start With Truck Loads

Most junk removal pricing is built on the truck. A simple ladder:

Some companies add 1/8 steps or a minimum load line. Match the list to how you actually quote. If the load size on the job and the line on the estimate use the same words, the crew and the customer are looking at the same thing.

Decide early how much weight each load price includes. If your half truck load includes a set number of tons and anything over is billed per ton, write that into the service description so it shows on estimates. Customers rarely argue with a rule they were told up front. They argue with a surprise. Load sizes themselves are covered in Load Size on Every Job: From Min Load to Three Loads in Junk Removal Software.

Add the Specialty Items

Some items cost more to handle than the room they take up. Give them their own lines:

A hot tub or piano line makes the quote obvious to the customer and reminds the crew to bring the right gear. Whether a particular dump or recycler accepts an item, and what it charges, is up to that site, so set these prices with your local drop-offs in mind.

Add the Big Jobs

Cleanouts are often priced as their own service, or as a cleanout line plus truck loads:

For property managers and realtors who send repeat work, an apartment trash-out line priced for their typical unit makes their monthly statements easy to read.

Add the Extras

Then the add-ons that change a price:

Dump fee overage doesn't need a line. It's calculated on the job from the ticket's tons, the tons included and your per-ton rate, and added to the invoice automatically.

Using Property Measurements

Each property can carry measurements: haul miles, cubic yards and items. Services can be priced off them. A company that charges more for long hauls can price a service off haul miles. A company that thinks in cubic yards for bigger jobs can record the yards on the property. Most junk companies will stick with truck-load fractions, but the option is there.

Keep It Short

A service list with fifty lines is hard to quote from. A few habits keep it usable:

  1. Use the words your customers use. “Half truck load,” not “Volume tier 3.”
  2. Combine lines that are always sold together.
  3. Retire lines nobody has used in months.
  4. Set sales tax the way your area requires and let the invoice handle it.

Customers can also see and sign up for services and pricing in the customer app, so a clear list helps them as much as it helps the office.

Templates on Top

Once the list is set, estimate templates combine lines into the jobs you quote most often. “Standard garage cleanout” might be a half truck load plus an appliance. “Apartment trash-out” might be a three-quarter load. Templates make sure the right lines go on every quote, even when someone new is answering the phone.

The Menu Drives Everything

Your service list is where pricing decisions turn into estimates, jobs and invoices. Spend an hour on it during setup and it pays you back every day. To see how it ties into the rest of the system, go back to the JunkBossPro junk removal software page.
