Billing Junk Removal Customers in Their Own Currency: US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK
Junk removal looks much the same in Toronto, Brisbane, Auckland and Manchester as it does in Texas. A truck, a crew, a garage full of things somebody no longer wants. The billing should look the same too, except for one thing: the money on the invoice should be the money your customers actually use.
The Same Billing, Wherever You Work
Cash flow for small operations is covered in Cash Flow for a One-Truck Junk Removal Owner. Everything in that article, and in the rest of this series, applies whether you work in dollars or pounds.
JunkBossPro works in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and bills customers in their own currency. A company in Vancouver invoices in Canadian dollars. A company in Leeds invoices in pounds. The invoices, the card-on-file charges and the customer app all follow.
What Stays the Same
The tools that make junk removal billing work are not country-specific:
- Line items from your service list. Single items, truck loads, cleanouts and add-ons, priced in your currency.
- Dump fee overage. Enter the tons from the ticket, the tons included and your per-ton rate, and the overage is added automatically.
- Card on file and charge at completion. The crew taps Complete in the crew app, the invoice is created and the card can be charged.
- Auto-charge. On completion or on a schedule.
- Online payment from the customer app. Customers see their invoices, pay and update their card.
- Monthly statements. Property managers and estate agents set to Monthly get one statement covering every address.
Tax Is Local
Invoices in JunkBossPro carry line items and sales tax from your settings. But what tax applies, what it is called and what rate to use differ from country to country, and often from province or state to the next. That is a question for your accountant or local tax office, not for software or a blog post. Get the answer, set it up once, and every invoice applies it the same way. The setup approach is in Sales Tax on Junk Removal Invoices: Set It Once So Every Invoice Gets It Right.
Weight Units and Dump Fees
Dump and transfer station tickets show weight however your local facility measures it. The overage works from the numbers you enter: the ticket weight, the weight included in the price and your rate. Use the same unit your tickets use, and set your included weight and rate to match. What your local facility accepts and charges is its call, so check its rules when you set your prices.
Words Customers Recognize
Name your services the way your customers talk. A few examples:
- A “skip” in the UK, Australia and New Zealand is what many Americans call a dumpster. If you drop them, name the service so local customers understand it. Days included and a daily rate work the same way.
- “Realtor” in North America, “estate agent” or “real estate agent” elsewhere.
- “Rubbish removal” in some places, “junk removal” in others.
Because the service list is yours, you can name things however your market expects.
Texting Customers
Two-way texting and automated text reminders are part of how JunkBossPro keeps customers informed and invoices paid. Plans include a monthly text allowance of 500, 1,000 or 2,000 texts sent and received on Start, Pro and Crew, for the US and Canada. Email reminders and alerts work everywhere, and the customer app works for customers in every supported country.
Customer App Everywhere
The customer app is where customers see invoices in their own currency, pay online and update their card. It also shows the live route on their pickup day, lets them request service and refer a neighbor. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing for your customers to download from an app store.
Plans and Pricing
JunkBossPro plans are Start, Pro and Crew at $59, $89 and $199 a month, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required. Every plan includes invoicing, card on file, auto-charge, online payment from the customer app and monthly statements.
Moving Over From Another System
Junk removal companies outside the US face the same problem as everyone else when they switch: years of customers sitting in spreadsheets, paper or generic field-service software. CSV import brings customers and addresses in, and imported addresses are placed on the map automatically, whether they are in Ontario or Otago. Set up your service list with local names and prices in your own currency, have your accountant confirm the tax setup, send yourself a test invoice, and you are ready to bill. The fully-stocked demo company at the JunkBossPro live demo is a quick way to see the invoices before you start.
Bill Like a Local
